Audrey ATKINSON
Audrey Atkinson is a Jamaican artist who has studied and lived in Europe for
a number of years. Her initial fashion studies in Paris at the American
Academy and since then in Brussels and London have continued to influence
her work in fine art. Audrey‘s work is often concerned with expressing
through the external forms of the human body a projection of interior
psychology and emotion. She achieves this through a rigorous drawing
technique with powerful and expressive almost calligraphic mark making in a
variety of media. Her exploration of the model through direct observation in
life classes is developed in the more slowly built up processes of etching,
engraving and painting in which her concern with light, form and space
relations and many qualities of texture and colour give her work its raw and
emotional impact without lessening its aesthetic appeal.
